Having worked in the community for many years I have realised that the main hindrance to the recovery from addiction is denial. Many people refuse to admit that they have a problem and therefore never seek help. Addiction affects many people who hail from different walks of life and social status. Here are a few examples of the different types of patients that I had the opportunity to be work with:

  • A 62 year old man who consumed alcohol for 43 years.
  • A 40 year old female accountant who was addicted to pain killers
  • A 16 year old male who was addicted to sniffing glue.
  • A 56 year old doctor was addicted to prescription medication.
  • A 25 year old student who was a drug merchant.
